כָּבַן

כָּבַן(cmp. כָּבַל) to clasp, fasten. Part. pass. כָּבוּן, f. כְּבוּנָה, pl. כְּבונוֹת clasped, esp. sheepwearing a clasped cover (v. כְּבֵינְתָּא) for the protection of their wool. Sabb.V, 2; Tosef. ib. IV (V), 1 כ׳ למילת covered for the sake of the fire wool. Bab. ib. 54a שמְכַבְּנִין אותן למילת (not אותו).V. כְּבֵינָא. Pi. כִּבֵּן to clasp a wrap; to wrap up. Sabb. l. c., v. supra. Ib. (defining צמר לבן) כצמרו נקי … שמְכַבְּנִין אוֹתוֹ למולת like the wool of a new-born lamb with they wrap up for the sake of the wool; Shebu.6b שמכבנין אותו Ms. M. (ed. incorv. בו).
